THE POWER OF ACCOUNTABILITY TO ACHIEVE YOUR WEIGHT LOSS GOALS
CHRIS EGAN-LEE • October 26, 2023

When you set a goal, it involves you and only you, achieving it is dependent on your hard work, consistency and perseverance. After the initial enthusiasm of goal setting and working towards it whether it be losing weight, getting stronger, eating better etc. the motivation tank sometimes runs low and as a result, slowing down and giving up becomes an easy option to take.

This is why using accountability to achieve your weight loss goal is so powerful!

What is accountability?

I think most of us have a general sence of what accountability is or what it means to be accountable. Different sources define it involving making a commitment to someone (including ourselves) to follow through on a specific action. Some definitions include an obligation to completing a task, a responsibility for a certain action or result or a kind of contract, whether informal or unspoken.

What makes accountability so important and powerful is the social support, regular tracking, motivation boost and fresh ideas it can bring.

Some studies have recorded that loneliness and isolation can increase health risks while on the other hand, there is a strong connection between social support and positive health outcomes. Such as increased happiness and resilience to stress. Tying in the element of accountability can allow your social support system to help bring you closer to your health and fitness goals.
So find your crew whether it be your friends, spouse or partner, dieticians, doctors, gym buddies and of course the team of personal trainers here at RealFit!

Regular tracking to monitor your results is another benefit of accountability whereby an additional person is involved. This helps to strengthen consistency when there is a deadline in place and regular check-ins are planned, scheduled and met.

These regular check-ins not only identify successes or opportunities for improvement but provide that motivation boost when faced with fatigue and the busyness of life creeps into the weekly schedule, accountability can give that extra push to get to the gym.

Lastly, we know that things can get stale after months of training so having an accountability partner can allow an exchange of knowledge and fresh ideas to keep things interesting and fun in all aspects of health and fitness. It’s not just about different exercise techniques but also about different meal plans and overall health advice.

At RealFit we’ve had so many success stores with our members achieving their goals and it’s because we’ve built accountability into our training programs with regular check-ins, creating a community vibe, we set standards and expectations and offer the professional and social support required.

If you want to succeed in a personal goal and have struggled in the past, you don’t have to go it alone. Book in a time with the team at RealFit, we are ready to give you the support and accountability you need to succeed.
